For a profitable future, it's best to start young. That's the reasoning behind Junior Achievement (JA) of New York's More than Money® program. Now in its third year, HSBC Bank USA and JA brought this program to more than 80 third-grade students at PS 212 in Jackson Heights last month. The students were taught financial basics to encourage them to make smart money-saving decisions, develop money management skills, and embrace the opportunities presented by a 21st-century economy. "To become financially literate, children need the opportunity to acquire financial knowledge over time-knowledge that is commensurate with their age and ability," said Joseph Peri, president of JA New York. "JA More than Money is a first step toward achieving a healthy relationship with money and toward children learning how to take control of their own future economic success."
In the previous two years, JA More than Money® has reached more than 110,000 children in 32 countries worldwide. In addition to implementing the program in New York City and Long Island this spring, an expansion plan includes as many as 45 locations in 42 countries.
