The Southampton History Museum opens the 2022 season with a new exhibit that combines historic photographs of people with their pets from its historic collection along with digital images of caretakers and their animal companions. Also, pet inspired artwork by three professional Southampton artists will be shown. People living in Southampton began taking photographs of their animal companions in the 1870s and continue to do so today. Animal themed artwork and furnishings were either hand-made or manufactured for 150 years - objects in the exhibit are either donated or on loan to the Museum by local residents. A wide variety of pet themed toys, dishes, banks, pillows and doorstops from the Museum’s collection can be seen along with recent submissions of recently taken digital photographs.

After the House of Lights, guests can meet the Tortoises in the greenhouse and say hello to Finn and his friends in the Goat pen. Holiday movies will also be playing at the Haybale Theatre. After all the holiday activities, take a walk through the Waterdrinker Gift Shop and pick up a custom souvenir or freshly baked treats and candy at the Greenhouse Cafe.

As fall sheds its leafy coat in preparation for winter, the first weekend in December again plays host to the beloved Village of Port Jefferson Charles Dickens Festival.  Produced by the Greater Port Jefferson-Northern Brookhaven Arts Council in cooperation with the Incorporated Village of Port Jefferson, friends and families from across the North East, from all 50 states, and, indeed, from around the globe, will gather to celebrate the beloved author as we once again turn our quaint seaport village into a living Dickens stage. The Artisan Square, shows how hand-crafted works were made in Victorian England. The restaurants offer Dickensian-inspired fare, while the wide range of shops in the village stays open for extended hours for holiday shopping. The Village, once again, will be rich with their troupe of Dickens’ Street Characters and alive with a host of musical, magical, and theatrical presentations sure to delight the Scroogiest of curmudgeons.

Science Saturday: Simple Machines - Lego Engineering

Levers, pulleys and simple machines come to life when students build them. Working through a series of models using LEGO Dacta Technics Kits, students engage in manipulating materials, interpreting data, observing and predicting. Science Saturday Workshop prices include the workshop and museum admission for the participating student. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
