St. Mary's Hospital for Children Ribbon Cutting

Starlight Children’s Foundation and representatives from St. Mary’s Hospital for Children conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the new care rooms within the hospital.

On Sept. 27, St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in Bayside marked the grand opening of its Patient Pavilion with goals to help its littlest of patients feel less intimdated during their visits. The Patient Pavilion features four new patient care rooms designed with a musical theme and were provided by the local chapter of the Starlight Children's Foundation.

The Starlight Children's Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with chrnoic illnesses and life-threatening injuries. The new care rooms are designed with a musical theme that includes colorful framed art, bright floor tiles with piano keys and a large treble clef with notes dancing across the wall, a wall-mounted flat screen television, and an inviting feel meant to help calm children’s fears, distract them from their pain, and engage them in the treatment process.

One of the elements of the new rooms at St. Mary’s includes  new, large flat-screen televisions that help provide distractions for seriously ill children during procedures that take place within the rooms.

About Starlight Children's Foundation

Many seriously ill children undergo procedures in hospital treatment rooms and it is often in these rooms where some of a child’s most difficult and painful experiences occur. Starlight Children’s Foundation is addressing this issue by renovating treatment rooms in hospitals across the tri-state area with new Starlight Site™ Care Rooms.

The Care Rooms were generously donated as a result of funding from the Feil Family Foundation. To date, Starlight has provided nearly 30 Care Rooms throughout the tri-state area.
