Non-pharmacological Interventions for Preschoolers with ADHD is a free research study evaluating potential treatments without the use of medication for children with Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder. Eligibility: 4- and 5-year-old children who appear inattentive, hyperactive, and/or impulsive. Children must be attending school, be non-medicated for ADHD, and not have any chronic medical illness, autism spectrum disorder, or diagnosed neurological disorders. Parent and children must speak English and be willing to attend weekly sessions at Queens College. How do I know if my child has ADHD: In Genearal a child with ADHD may be characterised by difficulties in some, but not necessarily all, of the following areas: - Is easily distracted
- Is restless and fidgety
- Often acts without thinking
- Makes careless errors
- Often interupts or intrudes on others
- Has difficulty waiting his/her turn
- Doesn't seem to listen
- Has trouble organizing work and completing assignments
Treatments are focused in two areas: - Play-groups in which children take part in play-based activities
- Parent groups focusing on:
- Parent education about ADHD
- support
- discussions about their childrens activities
- completing daily diaries related to childrens activities
