St. Sebastian School, a Catholic School of Excellence founded in 1926, serves the parishes of BVM Help of Christians (St. Mary’s), Queen of Angels and St. Sebastian. We offer a values centered curriculum and an academically challenging environment in which students develop spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially. Located in Woodside, Queens the school reflects a diverse neighborhood and counts at least 44 different nationalities that make up its student body. A variety of learning experiences including computer technology, art, foreign language, physical education/health and library are offered in addition to the New York State Curriculum. Learning is enhanced through technology and St. Sebastian boasts a newly renovated Technology Center as well as wireless Internet and Smartboard technology in all classrooms. We instill a strong foundation in the Catholic faith through our Religion curriculum and opportunities to come together as a school community in prayer. St. Sebastian School has created a setting in which each student has the opportunity to succeed to the best of their ability and discover their God-given talents. Teachers and parents strive to become partners in education as every effort is made to meet the varying abilities of the students through differentiated instruction. | | Our students love the after school sports program which is free and invites students from grades 5 through 8 to participate. The children are taught the fundamentals of basketball, volleyball and softball as well as good sportsmanship and team work. Various after school clubs, moderated by faculty members, are also available. Paul Effman Band Service offers after school music lessons for reasonable prices. Extended Day is available until 6 PM and can be used as needed. For more than 80 years we have prepared our students to move into leadership positions and service in the Church, national and local governments, medicine, education, finance, business and many other professions. We recognize the sacrifice that parents make to give their child(ren) a quality education and feel that they have made an excellence choice in St. Sebastian School. Administration, faculty and staff pledge itself to complete service to our children through the ministry of Catholic education. Please join us on our Open House dates to learn about the many programs we offer. Our 8th graders, who are members of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Service volunteers, would love to give you a tour of our beautiful facilities. Tuition Assistance is available for the 2013-2014 school year, please contact the school office for details. We look forward to meeting you! | |
